GONE FISHING

Clear Creek in Golden offers fishermen of all levels and abilities an award-winning fishing experience, only 15 minutes from downtown Denver with 2-hour free parking and easy access. Clear Creek Canyon also boasts everything from pools for risers to runs for nymphing. The “Golden Mile” of Clear Creek is a popular spot to fish for trout, including browns, brook, cuttbow, cutthroat, and rainbow.

The “Golden Mile” of fly fishing runs right through the heart of Golden just minutes from Denver. This section stretches along Clear Creek from Jefferson County’s Clear Creek Canyon Park Gateway Trailhead to Vanover Park at 10th and Ford Streets in downtown Golden. The Golden Mile is the result of a 2009 project by West Denver Trout Unlimited to create a first class trout habitat in Golden.

Offering 20 miles of access, Clear Creek fishes well, with the exception of runoff (typically in June), from approximately spring break to Thanksgiving.

CREEK ACCESS

The Creek is easily accessed from the paved Clear Creek Trail in downtown Golden and is equipped with handicapped accessible paths to the water’s edge. There are also a variety of pull-offs on public land in Clear Creek Canyon, including several new parking lots along the Peaks to Plains Trail, so it’s fairly easy to access the creek in the canyon as well.

Be sure to check water levels and conditions before heading out and stop in to our local fly shops for gear, tips and tricks.

To fish in Colorado, one must have a valid Colorado Division of Wildlife Fishing License except during the free fishing weekend usually held in June. Visit Golden River Sports and Golden Fly Shop to purchase a fishing license and gear up for a day on the water.
