GOLDEN, Colo….Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 3, 2024, when for a few glorious hours, Golden Retrievers will gather in Golden, Colorado for the annual Goldens in Golden event. Leashed and well-behaved Golden Retrievers and their humans will meet up to celebrate National Golden Retriever Day with lots of fluff and fun!
On Saturday, February 3rd, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Golden’s main street - Washington Avenue - will be closed to traffic so that leashed dogs and their human can enjoy the event. There will be activities, a pet vendor village and photo ops in Parfet Park at 10th and Washington and Golden’s main street, Washington Avenue, will be closed from 10th through 13th Streets. Goldens and their humans will meet, mingle, enjoy pup cups (whipped cream) for the dogs, photo ops under the Welcome to Golden arch and a day of basking in Golden goodness!
It will be a dog’s day – no, a dog’s weekend! - all throughout Golden with many Golden businesses offering specials and fun, including a Goldens in Golden Kick-Off Party on Friday, February 2nd from 3 – 7 p.m. and a Goldens in Golden After Party on Saturday, February 3rd, after the event at the Golden Mill. Many breweries are featuring special brews, including Mountain Toad Brewery, which will have a Goldens in Golden Stout, made with coffee and cacao beans soaked in bourbon. Most hotels have special pet-friendly lodging deals to accommodate the many out of town Goldens and their families expected to attend. New this year, official Goldens in Golden merchandise from Golden-based Yo Colorado can be pre-purchased at goldensingolden.com and will also be for sale at the event. A portion of sales will benefit the Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies and Foothills Animal Shelter.
“Goldens in Golden is a really special event,” said Megan Pinson with Visit Golden. “There is such deep affection for these sweet dogs it’s a real delight for the dogs and their people, who so enjoy socializing with one another. There are smiles all around and many people agree it’s ‘the happiest day of the year’!”
The event also generates a buzz that puts Golden in the spotlight during the slowest time of year. Images of these friendly dogs and their families enjoying a day out in Golden, Colorado have been viewed by millions of people around the globe and helps bring business to the town during the slowest time of year.
Many attendees are motivated to be a part of the official group photo under Golden’s Welcome Arch. New this year, professional group photos will be taken at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and noon to allow more people and pooches to participate. The photos will then be available for free download on Visit Golden’s website/social channels.
Attendees are encouraged to park in the Clear Creek Parking Lot, located at 304 10th St., across from the former Coors office building. It’s a short walk from this lot to Washington Avenue. Other options include the CoorsTek lot at 612 10th St., the Colorado School of Mines lot at 11th and Maple St and in the city parking garages on Jackson St., between 11th and 13 Streets.
