Weather Considerations
The current weather forecast for Saturday shows a high likelihood of rain and snow showers; Goldens in Golden will continue as planned unless otherwise noted on this page (although it may be a bit of a “soggy doggy” gathering!). City staff will monitor incoming weather, and in the event of dangerously icy streets or heavy snowfall, Goldens in Golden may be canceled. Before heading out, check the here as conditions in Colorado can change quickly.
Please dress warmly and watch your step at the event as streets may be wet or icy. It is February in Colorado, so dress in layers and wear appropriate footwear.
Goldens love water, but there’s a lot of ice along Clear Creek, making it very slippery and cold. Please keep your Golden on a leash and avoid the water.
Canine Respiratory Virus
The safety and health of our community, including pets, is our top priority. Visit Golden consulted with local veterinary and animal organization partners in regard to the possible impact of canine respiratory illness. All our partners are in support of the Goldens in Golden event for healthy, vaccinated dogs, including Dr. Sam at Golden Paws Animal Hospital, who shared this message. If you are concerned about your pet’s health, we encourage you to consult with your veterinarian or skip this year’s event as Goldens in Golden attendance is at your own risk.

FAQs - Goldens in Golden
Is there a chance Goldens in Golden will be cancelled?
Goldens in Golden is a very weather dependent event and will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather (extreme cold, icy conditions, heavy snow or rain). We are also closely monitoring the canine respiratory virus and if necessary will cancel Goldens in Golden. Please keep this in mind when making your travel plans and double check with your hotel about the cancelation policy. We will strive to make a final announcement on the status of the event by the morning of Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024. Please also check the website, Facebook event, and @VisitGoldenCO social channels the morning of the event to confirm it's a go.
ALERT: Although Golden’s Washington Avenue and sidewalks will be plowed, there may be icy/snow packed spots, especially in shady areas. If you or your dog are not steady on your feet, we do not recommend attending the event.

If you plan to bring your well behaved Golden to Golden, please keep your pooch leashed and be sure to clean up after your dog.
Clear Creek is very dangerous this time of year with thin ice and variable conditions. Use extreme caution and keep your dog leashed when near the water.
Have fun and follow the Golden Rule when interacting with others. Golden Animal Control will be on-site and will issue citations for dogs off leash.
How should I dress for the event?
Goldens In Golden is an all outdoors event with little cover from the elements.
- Dress in layers: February in Golden can easily go from sunny to below freezing, so dress accordingly.
- Wear sturdy, waterproof shoes/boots with good traction as you will likely encounter snowpack and ice.
- Cover your head and hands.
- Monitor your dog’s comfort.
