North Table Mountain

Lava flow formed North Table Mountain and its sister mesa, South Table Mountain, about 60 million years ago. Today, North Table Mountain Park visitors enjoy panoramic views, 15-plus miles of trails and above all visitors come for the natural escape.  This is a perfect hike near Denver for when you have limited time on your hands and need some fresh air. While the trails on Table Mountain are accessible all year round, the best time to hike is in the spring and early summer when wild flowers start to bloom. Check out a detailed description of the hike, download a trail map and find driving directions below. North Table Mountain Park Rim Rock Trail at North Table Mountain Park is closed from February 1 through July 31 to protect ground-nesting bird habitat and nesting birds of prey.

The Mesa is a habitat for countless natural Colorado wildlife and diverse species. It is home to prairie dogs, mule deer, Golden eagles and red-tailed hawks. Rattlesnakes are common, and shade is scarce.

The cliffs on North Table Mountain are very popular and offer easy to moderate difficulty routes. The “Golden Cliffs” on North Table Mountain face south and west; comfortable winter/cold weather rock climbing. Hikers must yield to climbers and climbing activities along the cliffs.
