CFI Presents: An Evening with Tracee Metcalfe and Ellen Miller
Colorado Fourteeners Initiative is excited to invite you to An Evening with Tracee Metcalfe and Ellen Miller on October 15 at the Golden Community Center in Golden, Colorado. This event brings together Tracee Metcalfe and Ellen Miller, two prodigious female climbers, for an evening of conversation and community. Tracee and Ellen will be talking about their adventures on the 8,000-meter peaks
Ellen Miller was the first American woman to climb Mount Everest from both sides (Nepal and Tibet) in 2001 and 2002. She has also climbed other Himalayan 8,000-meter peaks, like Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Manaslu, as well as peaks around the world, including Denali, Ama Dablam, and a ski descent from Mustagh-Ata (24,757 feet) in Western China. In 2002, she was voted Colorado Sportswoman of the Year for longevity and achievement in athletics. She is a former competitive endurance athlete and was the manager/coach of the US Women’s Mountain Running Team for 16 years. Ellen is a community activist in the Vail Valley, a dedicated volunteer for the Vail Valley Mountain Trails Alliance, and a passionate wilderness advocate. Ellen works full-time as a private caregiver for an elderly patient in the Vail Valley.
Dr. Tracee Metcalfe is an internal medicine physician and accomplished mountaineer who achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the first U.S. woman to summit all fourteen of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks, including K2, Annapurna, and Nanga Parbat. Her passion for climbing was sparked after moving to Colorado, where she immersed herself in the state’s renowned fourteeners. Her medical career became intertwined with her love for the mountains during her time with the National Park Service on Denali, in Alaska, where she provided medical care and participated in rescue operations. That experience paved the way for her role as an expedition doctor on major Himalayan peaks such as Manaslu, Everest, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. Tracee practices internal medicine at Mountain MD, which she founded in Avon, Colorado. Her years climbing in Nepal and Pakistan deepened her connection to the people of the region. As an ambassador for the dZi Foundation, she supports initiatives that improve quality of life in under-resourced communities in rural Nepal, and through Ascend: Leadership Through Athletics, she supports leadership development for young women climbers in under-resourced communities across Nepal, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
