Planning a winter trip to a Colorado ski resort always has you daydreaming about the fresh pow as well as repressing memories of altitude sickness. Many travelers actually choose to start their vacation with an overnight in Golden to acclimate before heading to a higher elevation. I-70 passes right through Golden as you make your way from Denver or DIA up to the mountain resorts. You’ll find it’s a quick and easy stop with a mountain village feel. Drink plenty of water, stroll through historic downtown and enjoy a good meal at one of our restaurants.
You may also choose to avoid the hectic airport rush and stay in Golden after your ski trip! Mountain traffic can be a nightmare and the only thing worse is when you’re fighting it to try to make a flight. Instead, book your final night in Golden. Walk the creek, enjoy the town and when you’re ready to head to the airport, do so without the stress of mountain traffic.
Budget Friendly Ideas
Gear-up with better deals. You won’t find sky-high resort prices in Golden, so grab those rentals or buy your gear from one of Golden’s gear shops. You can also hit the grocery store and local bakeries to stock your ski condo with the essentials at a much better price. Also keep in mind that if you plan to stay in Golden overnight before or after your ski trip you will be saving on your overall trip’s lodging expenses.
