In 1893, a collapse in silver prices devastated Colorado’s mines, railroads, and banks, leaving tens of thousands unemployed amid the national Panic of 1893. Author John Steinle traces the financial, social, and political turmoil of the era, drawing on newspaper accounts and historic photos to show how Coloradans survived and how the state eventually recovered.
